ICON Golf Cart Eco Battery Bundles — Lithium Upgrade Kits for ICON EV

Upgrading your ICON golf cart to lithium is one of the most effective performance improvements you can make — lighter weight, longer runtime, and zero lead-acid maintenance. These ICON Eco Battery Bundles are built specifically for ICON EV golf carts across all year ranges, combining the right battery size with the correct charger, CAN parts, and install components for your specific cart setup. Whether you own a 2017 ICON, a 2021.5, a 2023, or a 2024+ model, this bundle is matched to your cart — not pieced together after the fact.

These Icon Eco Battery Bundles are built to simplify that process. Instead of piecing together a battery, charger, display, CAN parts, and install components on your own, you can choose the battery size and Icon setup that match your cart and get a bundle designed around that combination.

This is a strong fit for Icon owners who want a cleaner upgrade path into lithium, whether the goal is lighter weight, better consistency, longer runtime, or a setup that works better for the way the cart is actually used.

It is also backed by a Limited Lifetime Warranty with 6 years of full replacement, which is one of the biggest reasons many golf cart owners choose Eco Battery when stepping up to lithium.

Why Icon Owners Use This Bundle Setup

Not every Icon cart needs the same Eco Battery setup. Battery size, controller version, and communication requirements can change what parts are needed and whether extra setup steps are involved.

That is why this setup is built around choosing your cart and battery together, not just picking a battery and hoping it works across every Icon model.

This is especially helpful if you are deciding between:

  • 48V and 70V battery options
  • Smaller and larger amp-hour capacities
  • Earlier Icon setups and newer Icon controller variations
  • Standard and heated battery options

Why ICON Golf Cart Owners Switch to Eco Battery Lithium

  • Weight savings — Eco Battery lithium packs weigh significantly less than the lead-acid setup in most ICON carts, reducing overall cart weight and improving performance on hills and longer routes
  • Longer runtime — lithium delivers consistent power output across the full charge cycle, whereas lead-acid performance drops as the charge depletes
  • Zero maintenance — no watering, no corrosion, no terminal cleaning
  • Bluetooth monitoring — track battery status, charge level, and health from your phone via the Eco Battery app
  • Limited Lifetime Warranty with 6 years full replacement — one of the strongest battery warranties available for golf cart lithium upgrades

Choosing the Right Battery Size

Battery size should match how your Icon is actually used.

Smaller-capacity setups can make sense for lighter-duty driving, shorter routes, and customers who simply want to get away from lead acid. Larger-capacity setups make more sense when your cart sees longer outings, more passengers, more accessories, more terrain variation, or a stronger need for reserve between charges.

Common battery choices include:

  • 48V 60Ah
  • 48V 105Ah Thru-Hole
  • 48V 105Ah Skinny
  • 48V 150Ah
  • 48V 160Ah
  • 70V 105Ah
  • heated options for selected battery sizes

If you are unsure which option makes the most sense, start with our Eco Battery Selection Guide before ordering.

ICON Golf Cart Model Compatibility

These bundles cover all current ICON EV model lines. Use this table to confirm your cart is supported before selecting your battery size.

ICON Model Year Range Controller Type Tech Tool
ICON i20 / i40 / i60 (Lifted) 2017–2021.5 Toyota Neos Not Needed
ICON i20 / i40 / i60 (Non-Lifted) 2017–2021.5 Toyota Neos Recommended
ICON i40 / i60 / i80 2021.5–2023 ICON Controller Recommended
ICON i40 / i60 / i80 / EV 2024+ ICON Controller Confirm
⚠ Early 2022 Carts: If your cart year falls in early 2022, check the Type # on the controller plate near the pedal assembly before selecting. See the rare exception note below for details.

Determine Which Controller Your Icon Has

Before deciding whether your cart may need the Tech Tool, first determine whether your cart has a Toyota Neos controller or an Icon controller.

To check, lift the front seat and look on the driver side. You will see a communications port next to your Run / Off / Manual EMB switch.

Here is how to identify it:

  • 3 pins with 3 wires coming out of the port = Toyota Neos controller
  • 4 pins with 4 wires coming out of the port = Icon controller

This matters because controller type can be more important than model year alone when deciding whether the Tech Tool is needed.

Tech Tool: Do You Need It?

The EB Power Tech Tool helps program and integrate certain Eco Battery setups with your Icon cart. In all scenarios, the Tech Tool is optional, but in some situations it is much more desirable than others.

Depending on your Icon’s year, controller, and whether your cluster needs programming, the Tech Tool will generally fall into one of three buckets: not needed, recommended, or strongly recommended.

Icon 2017–2021.5 (Lifted Cart)

If your Icon came factory lifted in these years, it typically uses 23-inch tires and a 14:1 gear ratio. Those are the default settings in the Icon cluster. If that describes your cart, the cluster should already read correctly for tire size and gear ratio.

Bottom line: the Tech Tool is not needed for most factory lifted 2017–2021.5 carts.

These older-edition setups typically use a Toyota Neos controller.

Icon 2017–2021.5 (Non-Lifted Cart)

If your Icon did not come lifted, the cluster settings are typically not the same as the lifted-cart defaults. That means your MPH and charge readings may be slightly off unless the cluster is programmed correctly.

Bottom line: the Tech Tool is recommended for most non-lifted 2017–2021.5 carts.

There is one important exception. If you upgrade to the cluster with a backup camera, the programming can be done directly through that upgraded cluster, so the Tech Tool is not needed in that scenario.

These older-edition setups typically use a Toyota Neos controller.

Icon 2021.5–2023

For these carts, the battery needs to integrate correctly with the Icon controller and system.

Bottom line: the Tech Tool is strongly recommended for Icon 2021.5–2023 carts.

These newer-edition setups typically use an Icon controller / Icon MCU.

Rare Exception for Some Early 2022 Carts

Some early 2022 carts behave more like a Toyota Neos model and do not need the Tech Tool.

To check, look at the Type # on the controller plate by the pedal assembly. If the Type # ends in:

  • 035
  • 049
  • 050

then the Tech Tool is not needed.

Rent the Tech Tool

If your cart needs the Tech Tool, you can rent it instead of buying one for a one-time install.

Here’s how the rental works:

  • You pay $400 up front at checkout
  • The Tech Tool arrives with a prepaid return label
  • You can use Eco Battery how-to videos during setup, and support is available if needed
  • You have 14 days from delivery to use it and send it back
  • Once it is returned in good condition, the $400 is refunded
  • Each extra week beyond the first 14 days reduces that refund by $133.33

That gives you access to the tool for your install without having to keep an expensive programming device long term.

What the Tech Tool Does

The EB Power Tech Tool is Eco Battery’s programming and flashing device. It can be used for:

  • Firmware updates
  • Battery-related programming
  • Controller integration on compatible carts
  • Improved communication through Eco Battery’s BMS and CAN system

It works with the EB Power app and helps unlock the deeper integration available on supported setups.

72V Battery Note

If you choose the 72V battery option, the controller will need to be reprogrammed to 72V. That should be confirmed before installation so the cart is configured correctly for the battery selected.

Heated Battery Option

If you ride or charge your cart in colder weather, the heated battery option is worth considering.

The main purpose of the heated battery is to help allow charging in below-32°F weather. Standard lithium batteries should not be charged when battery temperature drops below freezing. Choosing the heated version gives you a better option for winter charging and makes the setup a stronger fit for carts stored or charged in colder conditions.

This is especially helpful if your cart is stored or charged in unheated garages, sheds, barns, or colder seasonal climates. If your cart stays in a climate-controlled space year-round, you may not need the heated option. But if there is a real chance your battery will be charged in freezing or near-freezing temperatures, it is a smart upgrade to consider.

Fitment

These bundles are built specifically for Icon golf cart owners converting to lithium, with setup options based on cart year range, controller version, and battery choice.

Common Icon applications include:

  • Icon 2017–21.5 (lifted cart)
  • Icon 2017–21.5 (non-lifted cart)
  • Icon 2021.5–23 (Icon controller)
  • Icon 2024+

Included parts change based on the cart and battery selected. That is one of the biggest reasons these bundles work well for Icon owners. You are not shopping a generic lithium battery and trying to solve the rest later. You are choosing an Icon-specific Eco Battery bundle based on the setup your cart actually needs.

Before You Order

Before ordering, confirm your Icon cart matches the correct year and controller selection, that you are choosing the right battery size for how the cart is used, whether your cart may need the Tech Tool, whether you want a heated or non-heated battery option, and whether your setup requires controller reprogramming.

FAQ

What are these Icon Eco Battery bundles for?

These bundles are designed specifically for ICON EV golf cart owners converting from lead-acid to lithium. Each bundle pairs the right Eco Battery lithium pack with the correct charger, CAN components, and install hardware for your specific ICON cart year and controller type.

How do I choose the right battery size?

Match battery capacity to how the cart is actually used. The 48V 60Ah suits lighter daily use and shorter routes. The 48V 105Ah covers most standard ICON use cases. The 48V 160Ah or 70V options suit longer outings, heavier loads, more accessories, or performance-focused setups. If you are unsure, start with the Eco Battery Selection Guide.

Should I get the Thru-Hole or the Skinny?

This depends on your ICON's battery tray configuration. Thru-Hole fits ICON models with a thru-hole battery tray. Skinny fits ICON models with a skinny-format tray. If you're unsure, check the dropdown — only compatible formats will appear for your selected cart.

How do I know whether I have a Toyota Neos controller or an Icon controller?

Lift the front seat and look on the driver side near the Run/Off/Manual EMB switch. Three pins with three wires = Toyota Neos. Four pins with four wires = ICON controller.

Is the Tech Tool required?

Not required in all cases, but strongly recommended for 2021.5–2023 ICON carts and recommended for non-lifted 2017–2021.5 carts. Factory-lifted 2017–2021.5 carts typically don't need it.

What if my 2022 cart is one of the rare exceptions?

Check the Type # on the controller plate by the pedal assembly. If it ends in 035, 049, or 050, the Tech Tool is generally not needed.

Can I rent the Tech Tool?

Yes. The rental includes a prepaid return label and a refundable deposit structure.

Do heated battery options matter?

If your cart is stored or charged anywhere that drops below 32°F — unheated garage, shed, barn, or cold climate — the heated option is worth selecting. Standard lithium batteries should not be charged below freezing.

What happens if I choose the 72V battery?

The controller will need to be reprogrammed to 72V before installation. Confirm this is done before the battery is installed to ensure the cart is correctly configured for the selected battery.
